NASA’s Artemis Moon Program Honored with Musical Production
In Greek mythology, Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis now is the name of NASA’s program to return astronauts to the Moon by 2024. In honor of Women’s History Month, musician Lindsey Stirling performed her composition, “Artemis,” on the roof of the Launch Control Center at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center.
The video features facts about some of the women working at NASA and information about the agency’s Artemis Program.
As part of the Artemis exploration program, the NASA is planning to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon. The effort is designed to use innovative new technologies and systems to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before. NASA will be collaborating with commercial and international partners to establish sustainable missions by 2028. From there, NASA will use what was learned on and around the Moon to send astronauts to Mars.
Stirling is a violinist, singer, songwriter and dancer. She presents choreographed violin performances in both live shows, recordings and in music videos for her YouTube channel.
The presentation was produced by the Kennedy Infrastructure, Applications and Communication (KIAC) Contract video production team. John Sackman served as producer with Chris Chamberland as the video’s editor. Videographers Frank Michaux and Cory Huston recorded Stirling performing her composition, “Artemis,” for NASA to use as a promotion for the new program. Joshua Santora and Stephanie Plucinsky of NASA Communications managed the project.
